The main task of the activities of the Estonian Hemophilia Society in 2004 was to contribute to the improvement of the availability of necessary rehabilitation services for hemophilia patients, in order to increase the quality of life of the patients. For this purpose, a rehabilitation project was initiated, during which hemophiliacs and the special characteristics caused by the disease and the needs of the patients are introduced in various rehabilitation institutions in Estonia. The goal of the project is to educate the staff of rehabilitation institutions about the hemophilia disease and the needs of the patients, and to introduce the patients to the possibilities of rehabilitation. The first 5-day summer seminar took place in the Narva-Jõesuu sanatorium, where, in addition to the individual rehabilitation program, lectures were given on rehabilitation services, gene therapy in the treatment of hemophilia, and the latest drugs for hemophilia patients.
The goal of the hemophilia association's activities is to mediate and help patients cope with everyday life. Active communication takes place through the forum on the association's website. The usefulness and active use of the website was presented at the World Hemophilia Federation Congress with a poster presentation.
The association actively communicates with hemophilia societies in other European countries and around the world. Representatives of the Estonian Hemophilia Society participated in the Congress of the World Federation of Hemophilia in Bangkok, the European Hemophilia Consortium conference in Bratislava, the seminar for young hemophiliacs from the Nordic countries in Denmark to discuss the situation of hemophiliacs worldwide and the role of associations in improving it.
